If it seems that the awards season has lasted forever, that’s because it has. The speculation on potential nominees has begun as early as last June, and after dozens of champagne fueled industry gatherings that commenced in the fall the Oscar ballots are finally due in the matter of days. We’re taking a zodiac look at the top individual categories starting with supporting actress.
Penélope Cruz (Taurus) “Nine”
Why she’ll triumph: Over the last decade, the Bulls have won this awards three times (more than any other sign) thanks to accomplishments of Cate Blachett, Renee Zellweger, and Cruz lat year. It’s a showy role in a star-studded movie.
Why she won’t: The nomination is her reward. The academy isn’t ready to hand the Spaniard her second straight Oscar for dancing in her panties. Plus, Mo’Nique is in the category.
Vera Farmiga (Leo) “Up in the Air”
Why she’ll triumph: If the academy wants to reward a steady, hardworking actress in a multi-dimensional role, Farmiga might have a happy night. She was nominated for virtually for everything this season but did not hear her name called out just yet.
Why she won’t: Vote-splitting with fellow Leo and cast mate (Kendrick) in the category plus…a storm called Mo’Nique.
Maggie Gyllenhaal (Scorpio) “Crazy Heart”
Why she’ll triumph: She was the surprise nominee in this category and sometimes Oscar voters like surprises. In 1993, Sag Marisa Tomei wasn’t nominated for anything during the awards season just like Gyllenhaal wasn’t and shocked all by winning the Oscar. And this Scorpio is campaigning like there’s no tomorrow.
Why she won’t: All the Crazy Heart votes are likely to be cast in the Best Actor category. And Maggie is competing against someone named Mo’Nique.
Anna Kendrick (Leo) “Up in the Air”
Why she’ll triumph: Early National Board of Review win proved that Kendrick has her supporters and voters often like their winners young in this category. She stood her ground against George Clooney AND Kristen Stewart this year.
Why she won’t: Vote-splitting with fellow Leo and cast mate (Farmiga) in the category plus…a tsunami called Mo’Nique.
Mo’Nique (Sagittarius) “Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire”
Why she’ll triumph: Her earth-shaking performance has been earning raves, accolades, and fans since January…of 2009. This is role of destiny, and after a Golden Globes and a SAG this sensational Sag is going home with an Oscar.
Why she won’t: She’s the only nominee who stubbornly refused to campaign for the award. But who are we kidding?
Astro Prediction: Mo’Nique wins easily, Gyllenhaal is distant second, and Cruz is best dressed of the night in Marchesa.

New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowls sounded like a far fetched fantasy for decades for the fans in the Big Easy. But last night, two Capricorns turned the dream into a sweet reality. Great Goat quarterback Drew Brees (born January 15, 1979) turned in one of the greatest performances in the history of the big game, while his Capricorn coach and mentor Patrick Sean Payton (born December 29, 1969) kept him cool under pressure. In the end, the team turned in the biggest comeback in history of the Super Bowl and dominated the game in the second half to win 31-17.

Jemaine’s AstroStars Forecast: February 2010

Finally the year begins to pick up pace after a go slow in the early part of January. However, changes lie beneath the surface, yet to be revealed or to put into action. Mars the planet of movement in backward motion, slows us down until early March. We are tentative and unsure if we should take action, second guessing on our instincts rather than acting upon them. Projects that have been on fast track are stalled and we are forced to re-assess and find a more streamlined approach. February 14 begins the Chinese New Year of the Metal Tiger, the sign of power and bravery. The Tiger year will give you the drive and the daring to win over stiff competition, but of course not without a roar or a battle. 2010 is all about facing one’s fears, taking a risk, and putting yourself out there regardless if you may get eaten alive in the jungle of life.
