ELEMENTS
The Elements divide the twelve signs into four groups of three signs each: Fire, Earth, Air and Water. The signs allocated to the same Element are believed to share basic psychological and temperamental characteristics.
Fire
Signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius People with a strong emphasis of the fire element are spontaneous and passionate. They known how to apply their energy and they have an eternally lively imagination.

Air
Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius Airy people are quick and animated. They apply their energies in very diverse ways. They tend to intellectualize their feelings and expectations. And yes…they like to keep the windows open!

Water
Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces People with a strongly emphasized water element are very sensitive. Their imaginative and emotional minds are deep and rich.

QUALITIES
Each of the four elements occurs in three states or qualities and the placement reveals basic traits of the personality.
Cardinal
Urge to take the lead and shape things. These are initiators who act according to their aims and lists.

Overt desire to build on ideas and do it in a more efficient manner. They tend to preserve a “status quo” and act in response to given circumstances or issues.

Tend to seek change and renewal. Mutable ones can easily replace one idea with another and align their actions with unfolding processes.
Mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces
POLARITIES
The Polarities group signs in either Positive and Negative category, which simply means that their energies operate like opposite charges of a battery or a magnet.
Positive
Air and Fire signs are positive. Positive signs are naturally more impulsive, buoyant, communicative and sociable that the Negative signs. They crave excitement and are therefore inclined to direct their energies outwards into the world around them.

Negative
Earth and Water signs are Negative. They lean towards introversion and prefer to draw on their own recourses rather than to look for external stimuli. These signs are generally more receptive, sensitive and nurturing than their Positive counterparts. Negative signs are likely to be much cautious, retiring and stand-offish, with tendency to keep their feelings under a tight control.
