Pisces Alexander McQueen (born on March 17, 1969) presented perhaps one of the most intriguing and unforgettable collections of his career last week in Paris. While most other designers dealt with the effects of the economy and the needs of the retailers, the Brit entered his own dreamlike universe where he mocked classic designs, shocked editors with his beauty choices, and delivered solid and enchanting pieces of art of the runway. Ever since the designer graduated from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, he was always deemed destined for great acclaim. This quiet genius was hired by LVMH in 1996 to oversee Givenchy at just 27 years old. The partnership hasn’t worked out as McQueen found the corporate pressures too daunting and in 2001 signed a contract with the Gucci Group to fully establish his namesake line. His own career highlights included collections inspired by everything from royalty to animals to drastic dreams making McQueen (whose real first name is actually Lee) to be one of the most critically and editorially lauded designers working today.
